An NFC car card is a contactless smart card used for two main purposes: unlocking and starting a vehicle by tapping on the car's NFC reader, and authenticating EV charging sessions by tapping on a charging station. It replaces or supplements traditional key fobs and app-based authentication.
The card communicates with the vehicle's built-in NFC reader at 13.56MHz. When tapped, the car verifies the card's encrypted credentials and unlocks or starts the vehicle. No battery in the card is required — it is powered by the reader's radio field.
